The Church has a Problem

The Church’s core mission is to make disciples but we haven’t always done a great job. 

We’ve neglected the role of the Spirit in spiritual formation and confused discipleship with teaching programs, church attendance and altar calls.  

The result?

Christians who attend church and have good Bible knowledge, but are spiritually immature and lacking in character.  

Ministry leaders who can do the job, but don’t address their own sin and brokenness. 

A world that is fond of Jesus, but sees the church as judgmental, shame-filled and hypocritical. 

There is a Solution… Discipleship as Jesus Intended

Jesus defined discipleship as hearing his voice and following it (John 10:27). Love for God and people is the outcome (John 13:35).

But how do we do follow Jesus now that he’s gone?

“It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you.”

Jesus, John 16:7a

Jesus sent the Spirit to continue what he started. Therefore, discipleship today looks like hearing, recognising and responding to the Spirit.

This is where the church comes in!

Research shows that Spirit-led discipleship doesn’t happen with a brilliant sermon or special teaching program. It happens when we create a culture where everyone experiences the Spirit and together learns to recognise and respond to it (Acts 15:28).

God Conversations Pastors & Leaders Group Training

Thinking about implementing 50 Days of God Conversations in your church? Start with a Pastors small group!

This 7-week small group is hosted online by Tania Harris and takes you through the God Conversations course from a leadership perspective. Capped at 12 participants to maximise peer-to-peer interaction and application, it is only open to senior church leaders. Develop your own walk with the Spirit as well as learn how to build a culture that facilitates Spirit-led discipleship in your church!
